Interview
What inspires your work?
"My work is inspired by my personal life, my emotions and the messages I wish to convey through my illustrations. It’s an escape in which I give myself up, and if it can touch other people it’s a real plus that touches me and inspires me even more to create."
What inspired the ghosts?
"I’m passionate about Halloween and art history. This is what gave birth to my universe, with the illustrations « Archibald and the history of art », in which my little ghost represents famous artists through their key works. This little ghost naturally evolved into other settings, often related to autumn and art history, but also conveying positive messages."
How would you describe your design process?
"I have ideas in my head all the time, through my experiences and my life, which give me inspiration. I write them down and when I feel ready, I make a sketch. If I’m happy with the sketch, I move on to inking. I draw only in the traditional way (paper, « micron » ink pens, graphite leads). When the drawing is finished, I scan it in high resolution to share it on social networks."
What is one thing you wish you had known before you started selling your work?
"Most of the time, we don’t draw, but have to deal with other things that are much less stimulating (administration, accounting, communication...). "
What is your favorite piece from another artist and why?
"Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night, which is a masterpiece for me. It’s emotionally intense, between beauty and melancholy, calm and storm..."
What is the biggest challenge you have faced with this career?
"I did a 2 x 3-meter drawing as a tribute to my late father. I drew a photo of him and me, using only ink pens. A technical challenge, but above all an emotional one. "
Is there any advice you would give to other artists?
"You have to go for it, even if it’s not perfect. There’s no right time!"
Is there anything else you would like to add?
"Thank you 😊"
